## Synopsis

Gallipoli (2015) is an Australian war miniseries created for the Nine Network, a seven-episode limited series of 46-minute episodes. It follows Thomas Tolly Johnson (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and his brother Bevan (Harry Greenwood) as ANZAC troops wade ashore on the Turkish peninsula in April 1915. Their engine is simple and urgent: survive the dark chaos of the landing, hold a fragile foothold on treacherous slopes and deep ravines, and get through eight months of attrition. Alongside them, Walter Braithwaite (Nicholas Hope), Henry Stewie Stewart Watson (Travis Jeffery) and Harry Perceval (Matt Nable) show how mates bond and harden under fire. Each episode is built from concrete things: trench routines, scarce water, shelling, sniper fire and the slow erosion of innocence. The mood is sombre, grounded and quietly elegiac, with a strong sense of youth lost to a campaign of blunders. Staff officers such as Sir Ian Hamilton (John Bach) and correspondent Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett (James Callis) give the wider political picture. Fans of Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Anzacs: The War Down Under will find the same blend of intimate soldiering and historical scale.
