## What critics say

Reviewers and audiences found the animated Arrowverse spinoff a modest but watchable superhero series with a strong central heroine and a rising second season.

## Synopsis

Vixen is a two-season American animated superhero series created by Marc Guggenheim for the CW seed, a short-form spinoff set in the shared arrowverse. Its heroine, Mari McCabe, is an orphan whose parents were killed by greed, corruption and wanton violence in Africa. Inheriting the family's Tantu Totem, she gains the powers of animals, from a gorilla's strength to a cheetah's speed, and takes the name Vixen to defend the world against threats like the ones that claimed her family. Voiced by Megalyn Echikunwoke in the lead role, she is joined by arrowverse guest voices including Grant Gustin as Barry Allen and The Flash, Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen and Arrow, and Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak. Each brisk episode runs only about five minutes, built around quick action set pieces, a self-contained threat and a steady thread of Mari's grief and resolve. Its tone is earnest, hopeful and kinetic, with the cheerful energy of a Saturday morning cartoon. Fans of Arrow, Batman: The Animated Series and Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir will find resonance in its masked heroism, animal powers and family-driven heroics across two seasons.
