## Synopsis

The Returned (2015) is a American supernatural drama series created by Carlton Cuse for A&E. Set in a small town where several local people long presumed dead suddenly reappear, the show follows the families reunited with them and the lives of those left behind, who are challenged physically and emotionally. Tommy Solano (Kevin Alejandro) and Rowan Blackshaw (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) anchor the story, while Nikki Banks (Agnes Bruckner), Julie Han (Sandrine Holt) and Jack Winship (Mark Pellegrino) carry many of the domestic consequences. The engine of the series is the uneasy return of the dead: families must decide whether to accept the returned, and each episode unpacks how their presence reshapes routines, grief, marriages and old rivalries. Told across a single ten-episode season of roughly forty-three minutes each, it is a serialized mystery with an eerie, grief-laden atmosphere, unsettling and melancholic rather than gory. Viewers of Les Revenants, Twin Peaks and The Leftovers will find resonance in its slow, uneasy dread and its focus on ordinary people facing the impossible. The series was canceled after its first season, leaving its central questions open.
