## Synopsis

Emerald City (2017) is an American fantasy adventure series created by Matthew Arnold for NBC. Adria Arjona plays Dorothy Gale, a twenty-year-old police officer who arrives with her K9 dog in a mystical Land of Oz that bears little resemblance to the storybook version. Oliver Jackson-Cohen plays Roan, a figure caught up in the power struggles of the realm, while Vincent D'Onofrio plays Frank Morgan, the self-styled Wizard, and Joely Richardson plays Glinda. Dorothy wants only to find a way home, but every route runs through competing kingdoms, lethal warriors and dark sorcery, pulling her into a bloody battle for supremacy. Each season-length arc follows her hardening from frightened outsider into a headstrong fighter who must decide whose cause she will bleed for. Adapted from the children's book world of L. Frank Baum, the series is a single season of ten episodes, set in a grim, muddy and violent fantasy realm rather than the cheerful Technicolor of the classic film. Its tone is dark, gritty and propulsive, with an emphasis on bloodshed, political maneuvering and the costs of power. Fans of Game of Thrones and Once Upon a Time will find resonance in its reimagined fairy tale world, its magic and its restless, heroic heroine.
