## Synopsis

The Astronaut Wives Club (2015) is a American period drama series created by Stephanie Savage for ABC. Set against the early space race, it follows the young wives of America's astronauts as Life Magazine documents their family lives and they are transformed from military spouses into national celebrities. Betty Grissom (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Rene Carpenter (Yvonne Strahovski) and Louise Shepard (Dominique McElligott) anchor the story, with Trudy Cooper (Odette Annable) and Annie Glenn (Azure Parsons) among the other principal women. Each episode balances glossy public appearances, magazine photo shoots and domestic routines against the danger of the missions their husbands fly. The engine of the drama is the tension between the image the women must project and the private fears and losses they share, which pull them together as a tight-knit circle. The single season of ten 42-minute episodes was canceled, leaving the story unfinished. Its tone is wistful and bittersweet, with a nostalgic gloss on early-1960s Americana that never fully hides the anxiety beneath it. Fans of Mad Men, The Crown and From the Earth to the Moon will find resonance in its period detail, ensemble of women and the human cost of a national achievement.
