## Synopsis

Seaside Hotel (2013-2024) is a Danish period comedy-drama series created by Stig Thorsboe and Hanna Lundblad for TV 2. Set at Andersen's Seaside Hotel beside the North Sea dunes, it follows three young people who try to emancipate themselves from the plans other people have made on their behalf. Morten Enevoldsen, played by Morten Hemmingsen, sits at the center of the household, while Stuepige Fie (Rosalinde Mynster) and the hotel's staff and guests press their own agendas on the younger generation. Alice Frigh (Anette Støvelbæk) and Grev Ditmar (Mads Wille) bring the rivalries and romances that drive the plots forward. The engine of the show is the ordinary friction of a hotel household: a suitor pressed on a daughter, a job forced on a son, a secret affair that threatens to be exposed. Each episode is built from small domestic schemes that escalate into cheerful complications. Running across ten seasons and sixty-four episodes of roughly fifty minutes, it develops as one continuing story with recurring characters. Its cheerful, warm register and strong writing give it a light, breezy feel, with wistful undertones about constraint. Fans of Downton Abbey and Upstairs, Downstairs will find resonance in its period ensemble and class-tinged comedy, while Fawlty Towers offers a similar hotel-set sensibility.
