## Synopsis

Kurt Seyit & Sura (2014) is a Turkish national-television period romance series created by Nermin Bezmen for Star TV. Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ plays Kurt Seyit Eminof, a Turkish lieutenant, and Farah Zeynep Abdullah plays Alexandra Verjenskaya, known as Şura, the daughter of a Russian noble family. Their romance is the engine of the story: both want to be together, and each episode turns on the family and social expectations that keep them apart, as well as the historical events closing in around them. Birkan Sokullu plays Petro Borinsky, and Seda Güven plays Valentina Verjenskaya, two principal characters whose loyalties add pressure to the central couple. The series runs across two seasons and twenty-one episodes, with each episode running ninety minutes, so it moves as one continuing story rather than as separate cases. It is set in the turbulent years of the early twentieth century in the Russian Empire, against the upheaval of revolution and war. Its tone is sweeping and melodramatic, mixing tender longing with aching separation and a sense of destiny. Fans of Doctor Zhivago and Anna Karenina will find resonance in its lush period romance and its lovers caught between nations and class.
