## Synopsis

Saving My Stupid Youth (2014) is a Japanese national-television comedy drama series created for TBS, a single-season run of ten 45-minute episodes. Ryo Nishikido plays Heisuke Hara, a schoolteacher who returns to his all-boys Buddhist high school, still haunted by an humiliating incident there fourteen years earlier. Hikari Mitsushima plays Risa Hachiya, and Kento Nagayama plays Satoshi Tsutaya, among other colleagues and students who surround him. Heisuke's engine is a plan to co-host this year's Culture Festival with a nearby girls' school whose relations with his school are frosty. Each episode is built from the concrete logistics of that event, with constant obstacles, committee squabbles and awkward negotiations that keep stalling his quest for closure. The tone is wry and warm, with embarrassment turning into affection as the characters work together. Set in a present-day Japanese school, the show grounds its humor in everyday institutional life and the quiet ache of unfinished youth. Fans of Gto (Great Teacher Onizuka) and Hana Yori Dango will find a similar mix of school absurdity and sincere heart here.
