## Synopsis

Witnesses (2015-2017) is a French police procedural series created by Marc Herpoux and Hervé Hadmar for France 2. Detectives Sandra Winckler (Marie Dompnier) and Justin (Jan Hammenecker) work the case when murder victims are unearthed in the unfinished show homes of a housing developer. The first season's investigation pulls in former police chief Paul Maisonneuve (Thierry Lhermitte), whose own past becomes entangled with the probe. Their engine is the slow accumulation of evidence, dead ends, and buried secrets as they confront powerful people who would prefer the graves stay hidden. The second season shifts to a serial killer who murders every former lover of his kidnap victims, forcing the pair to trace a pattern through scattered, grim clues. The series runs two seasons totaling fourteen episodes, built around a continuing investigation rather than standalone cases. It carries the cool, rain-washed atmosphere of modern European crime television, with a tone that is tense, bleak, and methodical. Fans of Engrenages, The Killing and Wallander will find resonance in its moral unease and procedural focus on ordinary investigators confronting corruption and violence.
