## Synopsis

The Young Montalbano (2012-2015) is an Italian crime mystery series created by Gianluca Maria Tavarelli for Rai 1. Michele Riondino plays the young commissario Salvo Montalbano, a sharp and restless detective based in a village in Sicily, working alongside his trusted colleagues Mimi Augello (Alessio Vassallo) and the eccentric Agatino Catarella (Fabrizio Pizzuto). Montalbano wants to see the truth behind every mysterious death and disappearance, while local rivalries, bureaucratic obstacles and the close-knit gossip of a small community stand in his way. Each two-hour episode is a self-contained case, with its own cast of suspects and witnesses, and across two seasons of six episodes each the series builds a warm, recognizable world around its lead. The mood is sunny yet melancholic, with the Sicilian coast, cobbled streets and café life giving the investigations a lived-in texture. The show is a prequel to the long-running Inspector Montalbano, and fans of Inspector Montalbano, Father Brown and Wallander will find resonance in its blend of puzzle-driven investigation, regional atmosphere and a flawed, humane detective at the center.
