## Synopsis

Raskens (1976) is a Swedish national-television period drama miniseries created by Vilhelm Moberg and Per Sjöstrand for SVT1. Across eight hour-long episodes, it follows Gustaf Karlsson (Sven Wollter), a stooge who strikes his master after too much drink and then enlists in the army under the new surname Rask to escape punishment. Back in civilian life he meets and marries Ida (Gurie Nordwall), and the story follows the couple and their children as they try to build a stable household on the land. Their daily engine is the grinding work of rural survival, with debts, harvests, and the pressures of a hard social order pressing on them at every turn. Supporting players such as Viveka Seldahl as Nergards-Anna and Martin Berggren as Johan Klang widen the community around the family. The series is set in nineteenth century Smaland, the rural Swedish heartland, and its tone is measured and earthy, with moments of warmth and humour threaded through a steady current of sorrow. Its emotional register is one of endurance and reinvention. Viewers who appreciate The Emigrants and the slow, generational rhythms of Fanny and Alexander will find resonance in its patient look at a household shaped by the past.
