## Synopsis

Deutschland (2015-2020) is a German-language spy drama series created by Anna Winger and Jörg Winger for RTL and Prime Video. Jonas Nay plays Martin Rauch, a twenty-four-year-old East German who is sent across the border to serve as an undercover agent for the Stasi foreign intelligence service, hiding inside the West German army to gather secrets about NATO military strategy. Maria Schrader plays Lenora Rauch, a figure tied to his family life and the pressures he carries back home, while Sylvester Groth and Anke Engelke bring added layers of institutional and personal intrigue. The engine of the series is Martin's constant balancing act: every new assignment demands another lie, every contact may be an informant, and every personal bond risks exposure. Across three seasons and twenty-six episodes, the story unfolds as one continuing serialized narrative, built around tense meetings, forged identities and the slow erosion of trust. Set in 1980s West Germany and East Germany against the backdrop of Cold War tensions and the political culture wars, the series moves through barracks, offices and divided cities with a restrained, paranoid atmosphere. Its tone is intimate and suspenseful, with melancholy undercurrents and moral unease. Fans of The Americans, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Bodyguard will find resonance in its patient espionage and its portrait of ordinary people caught in historical forces.
