## Synopsis

Byomkesh Bakshi (1993-1997) is an Indian national-television detective series created by Basu Chatterjee for DD National. Rajit Kapoor plays Byomkesh Bakshi, an intelligent amateur detective in Kolkata who takes up cases the police have given up on. Alongside his loyal companion Ajit, played by K.K. Raina, he listens carefully, notices what others overlook, and reasons his way toward the truth without relying on weapons or force. Kartik Dutta as Punti Ram and Sukanya Kulkarni as Satyawati fill out the supporting cast around the detective's investigations. The engine of the series is the puzzle itself: a murder, a tangle of suspects with hidden motives, and a slow unraveling through conversation, clue gathering, and quiet deduction. Across two seasons and thirty-four episodes, it unfolds as a case-of-the-week procedural, each episode a self-contained mystery. The atmosphere is measured and humane, with a warm, nostalgic register and a sense of the city's streets and homes. Set in the 1940s Kolkata of Bengali detective fiction, it carries the cerebral charm of a Sherlock Holmes adventure filtered through Indian television tradition. Fans of Sherlock Holmes, Feluda and Father Brown will find resonance in its patient, observant storytelling.
