## Synopsis

BattleBots (2015-present) is an American reality competition series created by Greg Munson and Edward P. Roski, broadcast on ABC and Discovery. Instead of human contestants grappling for a prize, the focus falls on teams of engineers and bot builders who design, construct and drive remote-controlled combat robots into an arena for a shot at the championship. Each episode is built around bouts in which machines spin, slam, flip and tear at one another, and the program lingers on the workshop side of the sport, the design choices, the repairs under deadline and the personal backstories of the people behind each machine. Across nine seasons and more than a hundred episodes the show has grown in scale, with bigger and faster robots and a larger tournament structure each time out. Hosts, a ring announcer and a panel of judges frame the action with play-by-play commentary and color analysis, giving the tournaments the feel of a televised sporting event. The mood is high-energy and playful, with suspense built from the uncertainty of mechanical failure and the clash of rival designs. Fans of Robot Wars, Forged in Fire and American Ninja Warrior will find a similar blend of engineering craft, competitive spectacle and underdog excitement.
