## Synopsis

Gokusen (2002-2008) is a Japanese high school dramedy created by Kozueko Morimoto for Nippon Television Network, running three seasons across thirty-three episodes. Yukie Nakama plays idealistic math teacher Kumiko Yamaguchi, who lands at Shirokin High and is assigned to Class 3-D, a roster of delinquents who bully her in hopes she will quit. Katsuhisa Namase co-stars as Goro Sawatari, and Jun Matsumoto plays Shin Sawada, the class leader with a fearsome reputation. The engine of the show is a battle of wills: Yamaguchi refuses to back down, and every episode builds from classroom clashes, street confrontations and personal struggles into a slow bond between teacher and students. The series has a clear season-long arc, carried across three seasons that trace the class's growth. Set in a contemporary Japanese high school, it blends the warmth of a school drama with the swagger of a yakuza saga, since Yamaguchi is secretly the heir to a yakuza clan. The tone is breezy and comforting, with bursts of humor and sincere emotion. Fans of Kinpachi Sensei and other classic Japanese school dramas will find resonance in its mix of rebellion, loyalty and redemption.
