## Synopsis

Code Black (2015-2018) is an American medical drama series created by Michael Seitzman for CBS, inspired by an award-winning documentary. Set in Los Angeles, it follows the staff of one of the busiest and most notorious emergency rooms in the nation, where doctors and nurses work long shifts in a crowded, understaffed department. Marcia Gay Harden plays Dr. Leanne Rorish, a physician whose drive to protect her ideals collides with a challenged hospital system, while Luis Guzmán plays Jesse Salander, a veteran colleague who keeps the ward moving. Boris Kodjoe appears as Dr. Will Campbell, and Raza Jaffrey plays Neal Hudson. The engine of the show is the daily struggle to treat patients who arrive faster than the staff can handle, with each episode built around a fresh stream of emergencies that test the team's resolve and their judgment. Across three seasons and forty-seven episodes, the series stays serialized, so personal rivalries and professional loyalties carry from one shift to the next. Its tone is intense and earnest, with a visceral clinical texture and a sincere belief in public service. Fans of ER and Chicago Hope will find resonance in its grounded hospital setting and its ensemble of committed professionals working against institutional limits.
