## Synopsis

Childhood's End (2015) is a three-episode American science fiction miniseries created by Matthew Graham for Syfy. Charles Dance plays Karellen, the enigmatic leader of the mysterious Overlords, whose arrival ushers in a long stretch of apparent peace with no war, disease or poverty. Colm Meaney, Mike Vogel as Ricky Stormgren and Julian McMahon as Dr. Rupert Boyce anchor a human story in which people must decide what they are willing to give up for a comfortable world. The engine of the story is the slow realization that the gentle rule of the aliens is quietly stripping away culture, identity and the ambitions that once defined humanity, and the characters must weigh resistance against the seductive ease of a settled life. Each of the three long episodes, running about 85 minutes apiece, builds a deliberate, contemplative arc rather than a series of standalone cases. The show is a contained, one-season limited series. Its register is measured, wistful and unsettling, with a melancholic undercurrent beneath its polished, orderly surfaces. Fans of V, The Man in the High Castle and Colony will find resonance in its blend of alien intrigue, political unease and reflection on what a society sacrifices for security.
