## Synopsis

Utopia (2014-2023) is an Australian political satire sitcom created by Rob Gleisner, Rob Sitch and Santo Cilauro and produced by Working Dog for ABC TV. Set inside the offices of the Nation Building Authority, a federal government body that oversees major infrastructure projects, the series follows the officials trying to turn ambitious national dreams into workable plans. Rob Sitch plays Tony Woodford, the agency's senior figure whose grand ambitions keep colliding with red tape, while Celia Pacquola plays Nat Russell and Kitty Flanagan plays Rhonda Stewart, fellow staffers navigating budget meetings, flawed policy pitches and self-serving ministerial demands. Each episode is built from concrete office material: stalled road and rail proposals, consultancy reports, press releases and awkward committee sessions. Across five seasons of eight episodes each, the show stays a single loose workplace narrative rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its tone is dry, deadpan and cynical, with the satire landing on bureaucratic doublespeak and government waste. Fans of The Thick of It, Yes Minister and The Office will find resonance in its mockumentary-flavoured take on institutional failure.
