## Synopsis

Vanished by the Lake (2015) is a French television miniseries created for TF1, a six-episode limited series that blends a present-day police investigation with a cold case from the past. Homicide detective Lise Stocker (Barbara Schulz) returns to her hometown for the first time since a local tragedy shattered her teenage years. When a teenage girl disappears under circumstances that mirror the vanishing of Lise's two best friends, Ana and Marion, fifteen years earlier, she becomes convinced the two cases are connected and sets out to find the missing girl and the truth behind the old unsolved disappearance. The engine of the series is her personal investigation pressing against a community that has kept its secrets for years. Each episode of roughly fifty-two minutes peels back another layer of suspicion among the townspeople, where neighbors, old acquaintances and local authorities all have something to hide. Lise is supported by a cast that includes Lannick Gautry as Clovis Bouvier, Claire Borotra as Patricia Mazaud, Philippe Duquesne as Serge Joufroy and Marie-Anne Chazel as Marianne Stocker. The tone is brooding and melancholic, with a cold, rain-soaked lakeside atmosphere and a steady, contemplative pace. Fans of Broadchurch and Les Revenants will find resonance in its small town dread and its fractured, grief-laden return to a community that never fully let go of its past.
