## Synopsis

Doctor Foster (2015-2017) is a British BBC One psychological drama series created by Mike Bartlett. Suranne Jones plays Dr Gemma Foster, a general practitioner who begins to suspect her husband Simon Foster (Bertie Carvel) of having an affair. Her private enquiries, carried out between clinic shifts and family life, lead to far more than she expected, as the surface of a respectable middle-class marriage gives way to something harder and more dangerous. Each episode follows a new lead, a new lie and a new confrontation, building a slow burn of dread and betrayal across three seasons. The tone is intimate, tense and emotionally raw, with domestic detail carrying much of the suspense. Its themes of infidelity, divorce and the limits of knowing someone sit in the same register as the marital unease of Big Little Lies and the wounded-spouse investigation of Gone Girl, making it a natural pick for viewers who enjoy grounded British prestige drama with a sharp psychological edge.
