## Synopsis

Michael Strogoff (1975-1976) is a French television period adventure miniseries created by Walter Ulbrich and Claude Desailly for TF1. Adapted from the Jules Verne tradition, it follows Captain Michael Strogoff (Raimund Harmstorf), a courier chosen in Moscow by the Tsar to ride 5,523 km to Irkutsk and warn the governor about the traitor Ivan Ogareff (Valerio Popesco), a former colonel who was once demoted and exiled and now seeks revenge. Along the way Strogoff meets Nadia Fedor (Lorenza Guerrieri), whose presence complicates his mission, while Sangarre (Rada Rassimov) and Blount (Vernon Dobtcheff) add shifting alliances and danger. The engine is the relentless overland journey itself, with each episode built from rides, river crossings, encounters with rival factions, and narrow escapes across the vast imperial landscape. Told in four ninety-minute episodes, it is a single self-contained story rather than a case of the week. Set in the nineteenth century Russian empire, it has a sweeping, earnest register, mixing heroic loyalty, romance, and military intrigue. Viewers who enjoy The Count of Monte Cristo, Around the World in Eighty Days, or Doctor Zhivago will find resonance in its classic European adventure spirit.
