## Synopsis

Nirvana in Fire (2015-2018) is a Chinese historical costume drama series created for iQiyi, adapted from a novel. Hu Ge plays Mei Changsu, a weakened but razor-minded strategist who enters the court politics of a fictional dynasty to pursue justice for a tragedy long forgotten. Liu Tao plays Mu Nihuang, a sharp and principled figure whose path crosses his, while Wang Kai and Victor Huang Wei-de play the princes whose rivalries shape the court. The engine of the story is patient maneuvering: every episode unfolds through negotiations, alliances, veiled threats and carefully planted moves, as the protagonist weighs his fragile health against the long game he must win. Told across two seasons and 104 episodes, it is a single continuing narrative in which old wrongs resurface and reshape present loyalties. Set in a richly rendered imperial China, the series builds its atmosphere through formal court ceremony, candlelit chambers and quiet menace. Its tone is measured, melancholic and sincere, with a strong undercurrent of loyal brotherhood and grief. Fans of Empresses in the Palace and Story of Yanxi Palace will find resonance in its palace politics, while The Legend of Miyue offers a similar strategist-led intrigue.
