## Synopsis

Cyber City Oedo 808 (1990-1991) is a Japanese original video animation series created by Yoshiaki Kawajiri and produced by Madhouse. Set in the far future city of Oedo in 2808 A.D., the story follows three convicted cyber criminals, Shunsuke Sengoku, Rikiya Gogul Gabimaru and Merrill Benten Yanagawa, voiced by Hiroya Ishimaru, Tessyo Genda and Kaneto Shiozawa. Offered a choice between rotting in jail and joining a special force of the Cyber Police, they serve under the stern Juzo Hasegawa, voiced by Norio Wakamoto, hunting cyber criminals and completing missions that reduce their sentences. The engine of the show is the tension between harsh duty and the thin hope of freedom, with each episode built around gunfights, pursuits and tense urban operations. Across three episodes of roughly forty-three minutes, the series delivers a single compact arc in a neon-soaked, rain-slicked cyberpunk landscape. Its mood is gritty, angst-laden and melancholic, with a seinen sensibility. Fans of Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner and Akira will find resonance in its dark futuristic crime and bleak urban atmosphere.
