## Synopsis

Chewing Gum (2015-2017) is a British comedy series created by Michaela Coel for E4. Michaela Coel stars as Tracey Gordon, a devout, Beyonce-obsessed 22-year-old living on an estate in Tower Hamlets, east London. Her daily life revolves around her boyfriend, her tight friendship with Candice (Danielle Walters) and Connor Jones (Robert Lonsdale), and the mishaps that spread through her family, where Cynthia (Susan Wokoma) and Joy Gordon (Shola Adewusi) keep watch. Each half-hour episode is a self-contained comic misadventure built from clumsy romance, religious guilt and neighbourhood gossip, sitting inside a short two-season run of twelve episodes. The tone is cringe-prone and irreverent, with embarrassment played for warmth rather than cruelty, and the finest moments come from small rooms full of friends talking too loudly. Viewers who enjoy the observational awkwardness of Fleabag, the young adult London perspective of Insecure, and the working class warmth of Vicious will find much to like here. It is a sharp, scrappy snapshot of young adult life in the East End, with a voice that feels distinctly its own.
