## Synopsis

The Coroner (2015-2016) is a British crime drama series created by Sally Abbott for BBC One. Claire Goose plays Jane Kennedy, a high-flying solicitor who returns to the seaside town she left as a teenager to take up the post of coroner. Her job is to act as an advocate for the dead, examining sudden, violent and unexplained deaths and pushing against official assumptions. Matt Bardock appears as DS Davey Higgins, the detective whose working relationship with her is tested by each new case, while Beatie Edney plays Judith Kennedy, a family presence that keeps Jane tied to the town she once escaped. Each episode is largely built around a single death, with its scenes moving between the coroner's office, police interviews and grieving households. The series spans two seasons of ten episodes each, a short run that was canceled before its story could be fully concluded. Its mood is grounded, quiet and reflective, with a strong sense of community secrets beneath an ordinary coastal surface. Fans of Broadchurch, Silent Witness and Vera will find resonance in its British procedural craft, its focus on loss and its female-led investigation.
