## Synopsis

My Own Swordsman (2006) is a Chinese national-television martial arts comedy series created by Shang Jing and Chen Wanning for CCTV-8. Set in the small market town of Qixia, it follows an ensemble of friends and eccentric neighbors whose everyday lives orbit a local inn, with Tong Xiangyu (Yan Ni) and Bai Zhan Tang (Sha Yi) among the principal figures. Its engine is the steady stream of small squabbles, schemes, romantic tangles and money troubles that arise when people who know each other too well share a crowded space. Each episode is a self-contained vignette of comic misunderstanding, gentle one-upmanship and warm bickering, with martial arts flourishes that gently send up the wuxia genre rather than taking it seriously. The series runs for a single season of 81 episodes, a long-form sitcom structure in which recurring characters carry continuity from one story to the next. The tone is breezy, affectionate and cozy, with a comforting sense of community. Fans of Friends, Parks and Recreation and Kung Fu Hustle will find a similar mix of ensemble warmth and playful genre parody.
