## Synopsis

The Children of Greece (1993-1995) is a Greek national-television military sitcom created by Giannis Bezos and Dimitris Venizelos for ANT1. Set in a Greek air force aviation office camp, it follows the funny situations among the staff stationed there. Giannis Bezos plays Group Captain Kakalos, a strict yet ambitious and flirtatious commander whose pomposity regularly backfires, while Yiannis Savvidakis plays the conscript Dalas and Kostas Evripiotis plays the conscript Vlachos, two of three aircraftmen whose compulsory service keeps them in the orbit of his bluster. Giannis Kapetanios plays the naive sergeant Karavaneas, and Chrysoula Diavati plays Boubou, the commander's secretary. The engine of the show is the daily friction between rank and rank-and-file: schemes, petty rivalries, and the commander's vanity colliding with the conscripts' cheerful scheming. Across two seasons and fifty-three episodes, the format is episodic, with each episode a self-contained camp farce rather than a continuing storyline. Its tone is broad, breezy and affectionate, with a comic eye on institutional routine and masculine posturing. Fans of Sergeant Bilko and M*A*S*H will find resonance in its barracks-based ensemble comedy, and the show offers an easy, cheerful way into classic Greek television comedy of the early 1990s.
