## Synopsis

The Cave of the Golden Rose (1991-1996) is an Italian-Spanish fairy tale fantasy series created by Gianni Romoli and Lamberto Bava for Canale 5. Alessandra Martines plays Fantaghirò, a king's daughter who refuses a marriage arranged for her, is sent into the forest, and learns to ride and fight like a man. Kim Rossi Stuart plays Romualdo, the son of her father's adversary, whom she faces in a duel while disguised. Brigitte Nielsen plays the Dark Witch, whose sorcery drives the plot. The engine of each story is a romance that cannot easily flourish: the couple's love is meant to bring peace, but rival kings, magic and schemes for power keep pulling them apart. The series unfolds across five seasons of ten episodes in total, with a loose serialized arc in which each installment brings new enemies and new magical trials. Set in a storybook medieval kingdom, it carries a bright, adventurous, romantic tone with flashes of menace and a sense of destiny. Fans of Xena: Warrior Princess, Legend of the Seeker and Merlin will find resonance in its heroine who defies her gender, its enchanted forests and its tangled royal politics.
