## Synopsis

Safety First (2013-2014) is a Belgian mockumentary workplace comedy series created for VTM, running two seasons and sixteen short episodes of about twenty-five minutes each. Laid-off Dirk Porrez (Bruno Vanden Broecke) refuses to stay idle and founds a private security firm of the same name, drawing in his sister Ingrid Porrez (Ruth Beeckmans), the easygoing Luc Turlinckx (Ben Segers) and the loyal Simon Smos Vos (Matteo Simoni). The engine of the show is the gap between their ambition and their ability: the four former colleagues take on security jobs at events of every kind, from parties to public gatherings, and nearly every assignment unravels through bungled planning, overconfident bluster and clumsy improvisation. Presented through talking-head interviews and handheld camera footage, the series keeps a straight face while its characters stumble. Its tone is warm, deadpan and cringe-prone, and the friendships among the four partners remain the anchor even as their business keeps failing. Fans of The Office, Parks and Recreation and Corporate will find resonance in its awkward office-style humor and its affection for hapless characters trying to professionalize. The mockumentary format and modest episode scale make it an easy, light watch.
