## Synopsis

Degrassi: Next Class (2016-2017) is a Canadian teen drama series created by Linda Schuyler and Yan Moore for Family Channel. Set at the fictional Degrassi Community School in Toronto, Ontario, it follows a mixed ensemble of freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors as they face the typical pressures of adolescence. Miles Hollingsworth III (Eric Osborne) and his sister Frankie Hollingsworth (Sara Waisglass) anchor the storytelling, with Zig Novak (Ricardo Hoyos), Maya Matlin (Olivia Scriven) and Jonah Haak (Ehren Kassam) among the principal students whose friendships, romances and rivalries drive each episode. The engine of the show is the collision of everyday school life with weightier problems, so that a single hallway can hold a crush, a rumour, a family strain and a moment of peer pressure. Across four seasons of ten episodes each, the series moves as one continuing school year-to-year story rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its tone is earnest and sincere, with a warm, hopeful register that treats young viewers' anxieties seriously without losing its youthful energy. Fans of Degrassi: The Next Generation, 90210 and Skins will find resonance in its frank, character-driven take on teenage life.
