## Synopsis

Rebellion is an Irish historical miniseries broadcast across five hour-long episodes. It follows a group of young men and women from Dublin, Belfast and London whose friendships are pulled apart as the Easter Rising of 1916 erupts in Dublin. The engine of the story is the collision of private loyalties with public violence. Characters must choose sides as the expected short and glorious war of the First World War gives way to social breakdown and rising Irish nationalism. Family ties are tested in equal measure, as parents and siblings anchor a domestic world the uprising threatens. A large ensemble cast makes the independence struggle feel personal rather than abstract. Set in wartime Ireland, the series has a sober, grave tone, blending gritty street-level drama with political debate. Its tightly structured limited run leaves a bittersweet register, with moments of tenderness and grief. Viewers drawn to intimate family stakes set against sweeping national history will find much to absorb here.
