## Synopsis

Secrets at the Hotel (2016) is a Mexican telenovela created by María Renée Prudencio for Univision and Las Estrellas, a single-season romantic drama of eighty episodes. Julio Olmedo (Erick Elías) and Isabel Alarcón (Irene Azuela) meet on the same train bound for the Gran Hotel, a property belonging to the Alarcón family, and their lives take an unexpected turn inside its halls. Around them circle Teresa Alarcón (Diana Bracho), Ángela (Daniela Romo), Diego (Jorge Poza), Belén (Ilse Salas), Sofía Alarcón (Dominika Paleta) and Ignacio Alarcón (Gonzalo Peña), characters whose loyalties and rivalries drive the intrigue. The engine of the series is romance tangled with treason, as the couples' desires collide with the hidden histories kept within the hotel's walls. Each episode builds on the one before through accumulating revelations, emotional confrontations and shifting alliances, typical of the long-form telenovela tradition. Set in early twentieth century Mexico, the story unfolds with period costume, grand interiors and a melodramatic register that is sweeping, romantic and suspenseful. Viewers who enjoy period drama in the vein of Downton Abbey, or the intrigue of La usurpadora, will find familiar pleasures here, along with the appeal of a hotel where every guest carries a secret.
