## Synopsis

The Adventures of the Electronic (1980) is a Soviet family science fiction comedy miniseries produced by Odessa Film Studio and broadcast on Central Television USSR. Schoolboy Seryozha Syroezhkin (played by Yuri Torsuyev) wants nothing more than to escape homework, chores and school routines, so he gets a brilliant robot built by a Soviet scientist to take his place. The robot, played by Vladimir Torsuyev, is an exact copy of Seryozha who can solve any mathematical problem, write flawless essays and sing beautifully, and he quickly becomes the boy's perfect stand-in. The engine of the story is the comedic gap between the boy's laziness and the electronic double's flawless obedience, as family members, classmates and teachers begin to notice that something is off. Told across three long episodes of roughly seventy-two minutes each, the miniseries plays out as a light, self-contained family adventure rather than a serialized epic. Its mood is warm, whimsical and wholesome, set in an optimistic Soviet milieu where technology is cheerful and school life is ordinary. Fans of Guest from the Future and Wall-E will find a similar blend of gentle comedy, childhood mischief and faith in machines.
