## What critics say

Viewers found The Catch a mixed but watchable procedural-romance hybrid, with its lead carrying a twisting con-artist storyline that was not enough to sustain it across two seasons.

## Synopsis

The Catch (2016-2017) is an American network drama created by Jennifer Schuur, Kate Atkinson and Helen Gregory for ABC. Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos) is a sharp, successful fraud investigator in Los Angeles whose life is upended when she learns that her fiancé, a charming con man, has been deceiving her. Between tracking down corporate fraudsters and insurance cheats for her clients, she pursues him with determination, aware that the scandal could wreck the career she has built. Peter Krause plays Benjamin Jones, a figure whose connection to the central deception keeps Alice on edge, while Rose Rollins and Jay Hayden fill out her professional circle. The engine of the show is a cat-and-mouse chase that runs alongside a fresh investigation in nearly every episode, so each hour pairs a self-contained case with a slowly tightening thread about the man she thought she knew. The two seasons of ten episodes each keep that romantic mystery alive without tying up every loose end. The glossy, fast-moving tone blends breezy crime-procedural energy with romantic suspense and professional rivalry. Fans of Hustle, Scandal and The Mentalist will find resonance in its mix of con-artist intrigue, competent lead and polished network storytelling.
