## Synopsis

Maid Sama! (2010) is a Japanese animated romantic comedy series produced by J.C.STAFF and adapted from the shoujo manga by Hiro Fujiwara, broadcast on MBS, TBS and CBC. Misaki Ayuzawa, the first female student council president at a former all-boys high school, enforces strict discipline on her classmates while hiding a secret part-time job at a maid cafe to support her family. Her plans unravel when Takumi Usui, the school's popular top student and notorious heartbreaker, discovers her secret and strikes a bargain: he will keep quiet in exchange for her spending time with him. Voice performances by Ayumi Fujimura as Misaki and Nobuhiko Okamoto as Takumi anchor the push and pull between them. The single 26-episode season is episodic in its school-life vignettes, with cafe shifts, council duties and rivals and friends such as Sakura Hanazono (Kana Hanazawa) and Shouichirou Yukimura (Kazuyoshi Shiibashi) filling out the cast. The mood is breezy, playful and warmly romantic, with comic misunderstandings and cross-dressing mishaps layered over a sincere, coming-of-age heart. Fans of Ouran High School Host Club, Kimi ni Todoke and Fruits Basket will find the same shoujo charm here.
