## Synopsis

The Wizards of Aus (2016) is a short-form Australian fantasy comedy series created for SBS and YouTube, running six thirteen-minute episodes in a single season. Jack (Michael Shanks), a wizard fed up with the endless large-scale warfare of his Magical Realm, migrates to the most ordinary place he can imagine, Melbourne's Western suburbs. His plan to lead a quiet life collapses quickly: an accidental spell turns Flinders Street Station partly into a giant fish monster, and the public learns that magical beings live among them. Jack swears off magic to blend in, but his allies and neighbours keep getting drawn into trouble. Skulldrich (Mark Bonanno) and Kylie (Menik Gooneratne) supply much of the energy as the hapless companions who turn each small domestic problem into an explosive mess. Guy Pearce appears in a single guest episode as Morgan Wright. The engine is a single outsider trying to fit in while his own sneezes keep blowing up the neighbourhood. Each episode is a brisk, self-contained sketch built on mundane suburban logistics played straight against fantasy spectacle. The mood is breezy, cheerful and deliberately silly, with a dry Australian sensibility. Fans of What We Do in the Shadows and other offbeat genre parodies will find similar comic pleasure in the collision of magic and everyday life.
