## Synopsis

Van Helsing (2016-2021) is an American Syfy action series created by Neil LaBute, a five-season genre show built on a post-apocalyptic premise. Kelly Overton stars as Vanessa Van Helsing, daughter of the famous vampire hunter, who is resurrected five years into a future where vampires have seized control of the world and discovers she holds unusual power over them. Her journey is driven by the need to lead an offensive that can reclaim what humanity has lost, while she navigates an uneasy alliance with a band of survivors that includes Paul Johansson as Dimitri, Rukiya Bernard as Doc, and Aleks Paunovic as Julius. Each season plays as one continuing story rather than standalone episodes, with thirteen episodes per season building toward a larger war against the undead. The series works in a gritty, zombie-tinged register, with a bleak, action-forward mood, shifting between brooding ruin and hard-fought hope. Its vampire mythology and dark, heightened action make it a natural pick for fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Blade, and viewers who enjoy The Walking Dead's survival grit will find a familiar apocalyptic pull here.
