## Synopsis

The Cuba Libre Story (2015-2016) is a German documentary miniseries created for ZDFinfo, a single-season run of eight 45-minute episodes. Narrated in voice-over by Ken Eaken, it traces the turbulent history of Cuba from the era of Spanish imperial conquest through the struggles of freedom fighters and the island's revolutionary upheaval. Its engine is chronological: each episode advances the story of a nation shaped by outside powers, following how colonial rule, independence movements and communist revolution set the stage for superpower rivalry. Figures such as Che Guevara recur among the themes, and the climax of the series arrives with the Cuban missile crisis, when the island became a flashpoint of the Cold War. Archival footage, maps and sober narration give the production a measured, informative register, more contemplative than dramatic. The result feels like a survey of Latin American history for viewers who enjoy the lineage of documentary series such as The Cold War and Civilisations. Fans of Cold War history, Latin American politics and revolutionary biography will find resonance in its patient, wide-angle view of a small island at the center of large events.
