## Synopsis

Kuromukuro (2016) is a Japanese animated science fiction series produced by P.A.WORKS and broadcast on AT-X. Across a single season of twenty-six episodes, the story follows students, pilots and researchers at a research center who find themselves defending their home when mecha attack. Ouma Kennosuke Tokisada (voiced by Yohei Azakami) is a young samurai whose sword-and-blade heritage collides with the modern machines, while Shirahane Yukina (voiced by Mao Ichimichi) and Sophie Noël (voiced by Reina Ueda) are among the pilots who must learn to fight with the mysterious artifacts that power their defense. The engine of the series is the push and pull between survival, loyalty and the secrets behind the artifacts, with each episode built around a new attack, a training setback or a tense standoff on the campus grounds. The tone mixes earnest determination with youthful camaraderie and moments of dread, set in a contemporary Japanese campus world that feels both familiar and under threat. Fans of Gurren Lagann, Eureka Seven and Gundam Build Fighters will find resonance in its blend of giant robot spectacle and coming-of-age heart.
