## What critics say

Viewers found Cloak & Dagger a mixed but watchable Marvel teen superhero series, praising its lead performances and voodoo-tinged mythology while noting it grew darker and less clear over time.

## Synopsis

Marvel's Cloak & Dagger (2018-2019) is a Freeform superhero drama created by Joe Pokaski, produced under Marvel Television and ABC Studios. Across two seasons and twenty episodes, it follows two teenagers from very different backgrounds, Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) and Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt), who awaken to newly acquired superpowers that mysteriously link them to one another. Their story unfolds in a crime-ridden city where the pair must learn to use their gifts while juggling family pressures, a detective's suspicion, and the shadows of a dangerous underworld. Gloria Reuben and Andrea Roth play the mothers anchoring their home lives, while J.D. Evermore's detective keeps pressure on the leads. The series is built on episodic street-level confrontations threaded through a longer serialized arc, with a tone that moves from earnest coming-of-age warmth toward a darker, more dreary register. Its voodoo-inflected mythology and teenage romance give it a distinct flavor within the Marvel television lineage. Fans of Daredevil, Luke Cage and Runaways will find resonance in its grounded superhero texture and youthful emotional stakes. Its cancellation left the story unfinished.
