## Synopsis

Public Enemy (2016-2023) is a Belgian French-language crime thriller series created by Antoine Bours, Christopher Yates, Gilles de Voghel, Matthieu Frances and Frédéric Castadot for La Une. Freed after two decades in prison for murdering a child, Guy Beranger (Angelo Bison) takes refuge with monks in Vielsart, a small village in the Ardennes forest. Young Federal Police inspector Chloé Muller (Stéphanie Blanchoud) is assigned to protect him, but soon a little girl disappears and the village turns its suspicion on the newcomer. Patrick Stassart (Philippe Jeusette) and Michael Charlier (Jean-Jacques Rausin) add personal stakes and buried history to the unfolding investigation. The engine of the show is the tension between Muller's duty and the community's fear, as each episode peels back another layer of local secrets and private guilt. Across three seasons the story unfolds as one continuing arc rather than cases of the week. Set in the present-day Belgian countryside, the series carries a tense, claustrophobic, dread-filled atmosphere, with the wooded landscape pressing in on every scene. Fans of Broadchurch, Twin Peaks and The Killing will find resonance in its slow-burn psychological unease and its portrait of a community living beside a feared outsider.
