## Synopsis

Diomedes, el Cacique de La Junta (2015-2017) is a Colombian national-television telenovela-style biographical series created by Juan Manuel Cáceres Niño and Andrés Salgado for RCN. It follows the life and work of vallenato musician Diomedes Díaz, the accordion-driven folk singer known as The Chief of the Junta. Orlando Liñán plays the adult Diomedes, with Juan Bautista Escalona as the younger version of him, while Kimberly Reyes plays Lucía Arjona and Adriana Ricardo plays Elvira Maestre, known as Mama Vila. The engine of the series is a rural boy's climb through the music scene of northern Colombia, with romance, family loyalties and the pressures of fame pulling against one another. Told in a single complete run of 114 episodes of about forty minutes each, it moves between his childhood and his rise to celebrity, with songs woven through the drama. The mood is warm, sentimental and melodramatic, rooted in caribbean Colombian village life and the vallenato tradition. Fans of Narcos, Walk the Line and Betty la fea will find resonance in its blend of musical biography and soap-opera emotion.
