## Synopsis

Les Beaux Malaises (2014-2016) is a Quebec French-language comedy series created by Martin Matte for TVA. Matte plays a fictionalized version of himself, a stand-up comedian in Quebec, navigating the awkward everyday moments that his career and personal life keep throwing at him. Julie Le Breton plays Julie, and Émilie Bierre plays Florence, with Charles William Ross as Léo and Patrice Robitaille as Patrick rounding out the regular cast. The engine of the show is simple: the protagonist keeps stumbling into social mishaps, misunderstandings and uncomfortable exchanges with family, friends and colleagues, and each short episode of roughly twenty-two minutes turns those small humiliations into comic set pieces. Its three seasons, totaling thirty-one episodes, form a light, episodic run rather than a continuing plot, so viewers can dip in at any point. The setting is contemporary Quebec, and the tone is warm, self-deprecating and breezy, with a gentle affection for its flawed lead. Fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Louie and The Office will find a similar pleasure in cringe humor drawn from a comedian's real-world persona.
