## Synopsis

Deadline Gallipoli (2015) is an Australian historical war miniseries created for Showcase, a two-episode limited series running 120 minutes per episode. Sam Worthington plays Phillip Schuler, one of three correspondents alongside Hugh Dancy as Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett and Joel Jackson as Charles Bean, who arrive with British and Allied troops in 1915 to report the invasion of Gallipoli. Their engine is simple and pressing: they want to file the truth about a unfolding military disaster, while the command structure around them, led by Charles Dance as Sir Ian Hamilton, works to shape and suppress what gets out. The story moves from the encampment in Cairo to the beaches of Anzac Cove and finally to the evacuation, with the journalists' conflicts playing out in censored dispatches, tense exchanges with officers, and the hard realities of trench warfare. Rachel Griffiths and Bryan Brown fill out the supporting cast of officers and wives. The tone is sober, gritty and often bitter, with an undercurrent of cynicism about propaganda and a wistful pride in the soldiers who endured. Set in 1915 Gallipoli and Egypt, it is a prestige history drama in the vein of Band of Brothers and Gallipoli, appealing to viewers who enjoy wartime journalism and national origin stories told with restraint and gravity.
