## Synopsis

Pure Genius (2016-2017) is an American medical drama created by Jason Katims and Sarah Watson for CBS. Across a single thirteen-episode season, a young Silicon Valley tech titan bankrolls a hospital built on a cutting-edge, new school approach to medicine. Dermot Mulroney plays Dr. Walter Wallace, a veteran surgeon whose controversial past makes him an unlikely leader of the venture, while Augustus Prew plays the tech founder James Bell, whose startup ambitions collide with the realities of the operating room. Odette Annable plays Dr. Zoe Brockett, and Brenda Song plays Angie Cheng, adding further pressure from inside the staff. Each episode is built around a medical case that tests the hospital's experimental methods against traditional surgical hierarchy, with the institution's ambitions repeatedly colliding with patients' lives. The tone is brisk and procedural, with a sleek, glossy sheen that contrasts the sterile clinical world with the boardroom ambitions of Silicon Valley. Fans of Grey's Anatomy and New Amsterdam will find resonance in its hospital setting and its brilliant, morally complicated doctor at the center of a high-stakes institution. The series was canceled after its first season, leaving its central experiment unfinished.
