## Synopsis

99.9 Criminal Lawyer (2016-2018) is a Japanese TBS legal drama series created for Japanese television and running two seasons with nineteen episodes in total. Jun Matsumoto plays Hiroto Miyama, an unconventional young defense attorney who refuses every civil or corporate case and devotes himself only to criminal defense. Teruyuki Kagawa plays Atsuhiro Sada, a hotshot lawyer who will go to any lengths to win, and the two clash across courtrooms as Miyama pursues a sliver of doubt in cases where conviction seems certain. Supporting characters include Nana Eikura as Ayano Tachibana, Jin Katagiri as Tatsuya Akashi, and Ittoku Kishibe as Haruhiko Madarame. Each episode unfolds as a case that Miyama investigates beyond the courtroom, uncovering overlooked evidence from unexpected places in a country where prosecution arguments are rarely challenged. The tone is sharp and gloriously fun, balancing playful courtroom sparring with a genuine mystery engine and quiet moral stakes. Set in contemporary Japan, the show is a case-of-the-week legal mystery with a serialized arc between the two seasons. Fans of Suits, Better Call Saul and Liar Game will find resonance in its clever lawyer rivalry and its investigative pleasures.
