## Synopsis

A Terra Prometida (2016-2017) is a Brazilian biblical telenovela created by Renato Modesto for Record. Its principal characters include Josué (Sidney Sampaio), Aruna (Thais Melchior), Samara (Paloma Bernardi) and Léia (Beth Goulart), whose romantic and familial entanglements unfold across a single season of 179 hour-long episodes. The engine of the series is the pull between personal desire and a people's faith-driven destiny, with love triangles, rivalries and political maneuvering shaping each episode as the community moves toward its promised land. Its shape is that of a single long serialized telenovela, a continuing story where romantic arcs advance day by day rather than through self-contained cases. Set in an invented ancient Near Eastern world rendered with period costume and dusty desert locales, the show carries the emotional register of melodrama: earnest, heightened, and devotional, with lush romance and faith framing its conflicts. Fans of Os Dez Mandamentos, Escrava Isaura and The Bible will find resonance in its blend of scripture-inspired spectacle and soap opera intimacy.
