## Synopsis

Barakamon (2014) is a Japanese animated slice of life comedy produced by Kinema Citrus and aired on Nippon TV. Hot-tempered calligrapher Handa Seishuu (voiced by Daisuke Ono) is exiled from Tokyo to the remote Goto Island after punching a curator who dismissed his work as lifeless. Handa's engine is simple but sticky: he wants his art back, and he must first survive a village full of eccentrics. Among them are the spirited, mischievous child Naru Kotoishi (voiced by Suzuko Hara), the easygoing schoolgirl Hina Kubota (voiced by Rina Endou), and the local Kenta Ohama (voiced by Seiya Kimura). Each episode is built from small domestic moments, such as island errands, school days, festivals, and awkward friendships, that slowly reshape a man who has always lived in the city. The tone is warm, funny, and unhurried, with a healing quality that rewards patience. Set in present-day rural Japan, the series spans a single twelve-episode season with a gentle, bittersweet resolution. Fans of Yotsuba&!, Laid-Back Camp and Non Non Biyori will find resonance in its cozy small-town warmth and its quiet comedy of manners.
