## Synopsis

Midnight Sun (2016) is a Swedish-French national-television crime thriller miniseries created by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein. French police officer Kahina Zadi (Leïla Bekhti) travels north to Kiruna, a frozen mining town inside the Arctic Circle, to investigate a brutal killing of a French citizen. She teams up with Swedish prosecutor Anders Harnesk (Gustaf Hammarsten), who is of Sami origin, and their inquiry widens as new victims surface whose only link is the methodical cruelty of their deaths. Peter Stormare and Denis Lavant appear among the principal cast as figures tied to the town's dark secrets. The engine of the series is a hunt across frost-bound streets, mines and forests, while both leads are pulled back toward painful histories they have long repressed. Told across a single eight-episode run of roughly fifty-two minutes each, it plays as one continuous story rather than a case-of-the-week format. The tone is bleak, atmospheric and brooding, with long silences and a claustrophobic sense of a small community hiding something. Fans of nordic noir such as The Killing, The Bridge and Fortitude will find the same cold landscapes and morally weary investigators here.
