## Synopsis

Victoria (2016-2019) is a British period drama series created by Daisy Goodwin for ITV1, spanning three seasons and twenty-four episodes. Jenna Coleman plays the young Queen Victoria, who comes to the throne amid economic turbulence and resurgent republicanism, while Tom Hughes plays Prince Albert, her husband and closest counselor. Around them move Nell Hudson as the loyal Nancy Skerrett, Ferdinand Kingsley as the palace chef Francatelli, and Adrian Schiller as the sharp-tongued Penge, each drawn into the young monarch's struggle to assert authority over ministers, household rivals and her own heart. Each episode is built from concrete court business: audiences with prime ministers, dynastic negotiations, private quarrels in the royal household and the constant pressure to produce an heir. The series is set in nineteenth century London and the royal palaces of England, and its atmosphere blends lush costume, candlelit interiors and stately ceremony with the intimate tensions of a marriage under public scrutiny. Its tone is stately yet warm, romantic and sincere, with a steady undercurrent of political danger. Fans of The Crown, Downton Abbey and Wolf Hall will find resonance in its blend of royal power, courtly intrigue and romance.
